Recently, good news has been heard from the site of Zambia’s largest chemical fertilizer project, where WUHUAN (under CNCEC) plays the role of its EPC Contractor. Specifically, the bag filter for pulverized coal at the top of the gasification framework has been successfully lifted into place, marking satisfactory completion of all major equipment lifting work, an important milestone at the project site. Following this, the project will immediately shift to the phase of equipment installation, with a view to enabling the contractually stipulated handover in October, 2026. What’s also worth mentioning is that all equipment procured for this project is from Mainland China.
This is not only the 1st modern urea project in East Africa, but also the 1st EPC fertilizer project undertaken by a Chinese engineering company in the sub-Saharan region of Africa. It adopts the urea technology independently developed and provided by WUHUAN.
The project features capacities of 180,000 t/a synthetic ammonia and 300,000 t/a urea. Once completed, it will significantly alleviate the fertilizer shortage issue in Zambia.
